Creation of the 1st Green IT Datacenter in Monaco

The creation of the first Green Datacenter in Monaco

From the computer room to the datacenter

In 2009, the mobile Internet is becoming the majority, social networks are revolutionizing the uses of users and data and SaaS solutions based on cloud computing are appearing, with Microsoft leading the way with Office 2010. These major changes are all having a strong impact on companies’ activities.

In the Principality, the telis Group is aware of these changes and is initiating a reflection on data storage in Monaco. Data security and service availability are at the heart of the project.
"At the time, our room was saturated and we were looking to expand. At the same time, IT was experiencing the advent of cloud computing, which we were just starting to talk about."

Create a safe for digital data in the Principality of Monaco

Since 2003, the telis Group has been securing corporate data and offering data recovery and crisis management solutions through its subsidiary Actis. In synergy with the values of Actis, telis engineers came up with the idea of a Monegasque data safe, emphasizing both physical and digital security. The values of data confidentiality and compliance are also at the center of the Group’s reflections.

"We therefore decided to go further than a simple extension of the traditional activity of ACTIS (specialized in data hosting and disaster recovery plans) to propose a global offer in Monaco.

Facilitate access to data in complete security

With the rise of mobile networks supported by the smartphone revolution, corporate data must be available from any device connected to the Internet. SaaS solutions use the enormous power of datacenters and the hyperconnectivity of the Internet. From now on, applications and data will be stored on servers and no longer on client workstations, which has three major advantages:
"We therefore decided to go further than a simple extension of the traditional activity of ACTIS (specialized in data hosting and disaster recovery plans) to propose a global offer in Monaco.

The bet of an ecological and responsible and responsible solution for the future

Aware of the climatic and ecological issues involved in setting up a datacenter in the Principality, the telis group has chosen to install its datacenter in a building with a seawater-fed cooling plant.

Supported by an innovative partner in this project, Schneider electric, the telis Group goes one step further. Eco-friendly materials are used in the structure and the power consumption of the datacenter is optimized by the choice of a technology that optimizes the power consumption and cooling of the datacenter equipment.

Finally, with the objective of reducing the carbon footprint of the system, a renewable energy contract is signed with SMEG. A certificate is given to the telis Group every year to guarantee the origin and traceability of the energy consumed.

"We have acted at all levels, from the design of the project by exploiting natural resources. Our green IT infrastructure has been certified by Schneider Electric, the world leader, and two certification bodies, including ITEC Monaco."
